Luke served with the US 27th Aero Squadron. Noted for downing enemy balloons, and for his insubordination. In cooperation with his friend Lt. Wehner, he managed to down a disputed number of balloons. On his last flight, which ended in his death, he destroyed three. Luke Air Foce Base in the State of Arizona in the USA was naved after the flyer.
