In the France of 1917 a scout aeroplane - the fighter plane of the First World War - had an official operational life of one hundred hours. Short as this was, it was far longer than the life expectation of the average scout pilot. Gordon Taylor, then an eighteen-year-old Australian, was one of only four men in his Flight who survived the full tour of duty six months and more. Item #5158
