San Francisco: Family Dog, 1966. Offset lithograph poster in portrait format, design in red and blue with photograph of the Sonoma County Courthouse destroyed by the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, 36cmx52cm. Mild toning at poster verso, otherwise a near-fine copy. This poster was designed by Stanley Mouse (1940) and Alton Kelly (1940 - 2008) from Mouse Studio. Mouse and Kelly designed several posters for both rock concerts and ballroom events. Perfect example of their work is this psychedelic poster commissioned by the Avalon Ballroom in 1966 featuring the Big Brother and The Holding Company as well as Bo Diddley in San Francisco.

The lithograph is printed in red and blue. The central image is from a photograph taken in 1906 after the earthquake that shook San Francisco and destroyed Sonoma Count Courthouse.

The Family Dog Productions was a hippie commune founded by Helms in February 1966 to promote concert and dance events in partnership with the Fullmore. Later, Helms' Family Dog hosted a series of concerts at the Avalon between 1966 and 1968. Item #5102
