An impressive double-sided advertising poster for Satoku Honten's 1928 Hinomaru Calendar. Satoku Honten (Satoku Main Store0 was located in Nihonbashi Hamamachi in Tokyo. In the text on the front of the poster, the company promises potential clients that advertising with them in the coming year of 1928 (the Year of the Dragon) would see the clients' businesses soar, and they too would be flying high just like a dragon. The use of a biplane as the central image emphasises the dizzying heights Satoku's clients could reach. The message on the wings of the plane translates as "Hinomaru [Rising Sun] calendars are the harbinger of luck and business growth", but unfortunately this success was not meant to be as the Great Depression came soon after in 1929.

The reverse side of the poster has a myriad of options of how the calendar can be used to advertise the customer's product. This handsome poster shows Japan's early creativity in marketing and advertising. Item #5097
