Rites of Spring - Neon Rose 11 The Cloud - The Plastic Explosion - April 1 at Webb's - Members Only - 9PM-1AM
San Francisco: Neon Rose, 1967. Concert poster in portrait format, photographic collage of Claude Michel Clodion's Satyr Crowning a Bacchante over a psychedelic background, 36cmx51cm. Back foxed, otherwise a near-fine copy. Rites of Spring Neon Rose 11 poster was designed by Spanish-American artist Victor Moscoso. Moscoso is famous for creating psychedelic rock posters and underground comix in the 1960s and 1970s. Photographic collages and the choice of vibrant colours composed his artistic work. His preference for vivid colours have often been considered to be inspired by Jeff Albers who was one of his professors at Yale and who, in 1963, published Interaction of Color.
A photograph of French sculptors Claude Michel's sculpture entitled Satyr Crowning a Bacchante (1770) occupies the forefront of Moscoso's offset lithograph poster with vivid orange and fuschia pink. Behind the sculpture are two swallow birds. The two illustrations contrast with the darker shade of blue constituting the background. The font is reminiscent of the 1960s psychedelic era though this lithograph is not imbued with the same hallucinogenic effect as other of Victor Moscoso's designs. Item #5095
