Spitfire, Mustang and Kittyhawk in Australian Service

Western Creek, ACT, Australia: Aerospace Publications, 1988. Quarto, illustrated printed wrappers, 186 pp., illustrated throughout with colour and black-and-white photographs, some diagrams included. Slight browning of leaves throughout, otherwise a very good copy. First edition, Book 1 in Wilson's "Australian Air Power" series.

Prolific Australian author and aviation writer Stewart Wilson created his epic series of 13 aircraft books between 1988 and 1994. In the first volume, Wilson looks at the famous Spitfire, Mustang and Kittyhawk. In 1942, the Royal Australian Air Force was in dire need of modern fighter aircraft. The delivery of American P-40 Kittyhawks and British Spitfires assisted in remedying the situation, and the addition of the North American P-51 Mustang workhorse served to further increase the strength of the RAAF in the mid-20th century.
