[Victoria, Australia]: The 458 Squadron Council, 1959. Octavo, mid-blue hardcover, gilt lettering on spine, xi, 232 pp., four double-sided black-and-white plates, one appendix included. Two plates are not in their correct spot (plates on page 112 and 113 are between page 104 and 105), ex-library stamps on title leaf read 'CANCELLED' and 'Concord Library Service', tape marks on on endpapers, otherwise a good copy in a worn and torn dust-jacket. 1959 reprint. A history of the Royal Australian Air Force's 458 Squadron as seen from the perspective of one of its members. The Squadron operated during Word War II and flew Vickers Wellington bombers, first in Europe and later in the Middle East. Its first operational sortie occurred on the 20th and 21st of October, 1941, and consisted of night attacks made against the ports of Emden, Antwerp and Rotterdam. Later that same year, No. 458 Squadron took part in raise the newly establish No. 460 Squadron RAAF. At the end of January 1942 the squadron was withdrawn from Bomber Command to serve in the Middle East. Item #5045
