I Summon You to the Comradeship
New York: United States Red Cross, 1918. Large lithographic poster printed in white, red and tones of black on pale ochre-coloured paper. The poster measures 50.5 cm x 70 cm. A very small scratch and two small tears on top horizontal edge, two very small marks on the right-hand side vertical edge; otherwise a near-fine and clear print. This World War One poster shows an imposing yet approachable sketched portrait of US President Woodrow Wilson entreating the public to join the Red Cross. The main text reads: "I summon you to the comradeship" with Woodrow Wilson's signature below it. Additional text reads: "Answer the Red Cross Christmas Roll Call for Universal Membership". It was printed by the U. S. Printing and Lithographic Company in New York.
This poster was designed by Leo Mielzinger (1869-1935), a noted illustrator and portraitist. His signature and the date are part of the design of the print. Item #5038
