Military historian Norman Franks draws on official records and private recollections of air and ground crews involved to tell the story of the Royal Air Force's gallant role in the battle of Imphal and Kohima in India. This World War Two battle was fought under extraordinarily difficult conditions but General Bill Slim and his 14th Army held their position. Essential supplies and assistance was provided by the RAF's 221 Fighter group, flying Spitfires and Hurricanes, ensuring the defence of the Valley against the Japanese possible.
