The Golden Scorpion

New York: A. L. Burt Company, 1920. Octavo, original green cloth with black lettering on front cover and spine, 308 pp., an additional of 6 pp. of publisher's advertisement. Arthur Henry 'Sarsfield' Ward, Sax Rohmer, was a prolific British music hall comedy sketch writer, poet, and fiction writer. Rohmer's interests for ancient Egypt, East Asia, the Middle East, and the occult led him into fiction writing. Like in most of his work, Rohmer's depiction of Asian characters was a distorted vision of the author's stereotypes and racism towards Chinese culture and its people which contributed in misrepresenting the Chinese community.

The Golden Scorpion follows Scotland Yard Detective Inspector Dunbar and French Inspector Gaston Max as they investigate the strange deaths of several scientists with the help of Dr. Keppel Stuart whose suspicions lead them to an enigmatic and dangerous figure known as "The Scorpion" Item #4991
