Some issues have colour plates and/or tonal photogravure plates, some have fold-out leaves. Issue 40 has an index covering the series. A handful of leaves across the series have had some images cut from them, some back covers show very light foxing, Part 2 lacks the cover; overall a very good set with crisp and clean leaves, vibrant ful-colour covers and colour images. First edition.

This comprehensive and fully illustrated set of 40 issues covers the world of international aviation from the early days of flight to the Golden Age to the time of the set's publication in 1938. While originally mooted to be 45 issues, the editor, Clarence Winchester concluded the series in December of 1938 with Issue 40. The series offers a fascinating insight into humankind's long-held desire to fly and the technologies that were developed to bring that dream to fruition.
