Quarto, hardcover with pictorial boards and light green cloth spine, black lettering and a silhouette of a Comet aircraft on spine, 224 pp., front endpaper illustrated with a labelled diagram of a British European Airways Elizabethan Class aircraft, back endpaper illustrated with a labelled diagram of a Discovery Class aircraft, frontispiece, seven colour plates, illustrated with approximately 300 black-and-white photographs throughout. Top and tail spine ends a little bumped and discoloured, corners and tail edges of covers a little rubbed, foxing on edges of text block, very light foxing throughout, small white and brown Tyrell's bookshop sticker on inside lower right of front cover, dust jacket worn and torn but without loss of text; otherwise a very good copy with a good dust-jacket. New edition. Aimed at younger readers, this comprehensive and engaging book covers fifty years of aircraft designs and flying. Each of the 11 chapter cover a particular subject pertaining to aircraft, including design and make, drawing board to test flight, power for propulsion, instruments, airliners with spinning wings, keeping airliners worthy, airliners past and present, airports and aviation as a career.
