Jagd in Flanderns Himmel Aus den Sechzehn Kampfmonaten des Jagdgeschwaders Freiherr von Richthofen

Munich: Verlag Knorr & Hirth, 1935. Tall octavo, mid-blue cloth, spine and cover embossed with gilt lettering, 214 pp., two additional leaves of the publisher's advertising at end (unpaginated), frontispiece, 16 double -sided black-and-white plates, two maps, includes the diary entries of von Richthofen. Spine ends and corners bumped and rubbed, small localised tears on either side of top-and-tail spine end edges, very light browning on edges of text block and on leaves throughout (common to the period of publication), split in binding at end before publisher's advertising but holding firm, faint shadow of a name on front free endpaper, lower-right corner of half-title page slightly rubbed; otherwise a very good copy. First edition. A record in German by Squadron Adjutant Karl Bodenschaz of Freiherr von Richthofen's time fighting in the skies of Flanders during World War One. This account covers 16 months of action by Von Richthofen – better known as the World War One flying ace 'The Red Baron', admired for his skills by friends and foes alike – and his Fokker DR. 1.

This volume was released in 1935 to much excitement by the German public. It was advertised as "The flyer book of the front generation and young Germany!" and was likely to have been used as a propaganda tool leading up to the war. Included are von Richthofen's diary of the time and an introduction Hermann Göring. Item #4855
