The Douglas DC-3 and its Predecessors

Kent, UK: Air-Britain (Historians) Limited, 1984. Tall octavo, blue hardback, spine embossed with gilt lettering, [vi], 672 pp., two additional leaves at end (unpaginated), illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs, some diagrams included. Spine ends of book and dust-jacket a little bumped, otherwise a fine copy. First edition. The Douglas DC-3, known when in military use during World War Two as the C-47 or Dakota, is one of the most well known aircraft in history. It had a greater impact on aviation between 1936 and the early 1980s than any other type of aircraft active during that time. Without the DC-3/C-47, America would not have been able to join the war effort in Europe, nor undertake the island hopping campaign in the Pacific.

While much has been written on the DC-3, this is the first time that the lives of all DC-3s built have been covered in one volume. There are thousands of aircraft documented, along with dedicated sections on the development and specifications of the many variants built; information on military and commercial usage, their units and airlines; and much more. Over 300 drawings and photographs complete this comprehensive work. Item #4714
