Octavo, mid-blue hardcover, gilt lettering on spine, xiii, 232 pp., navy and white illustrated endpapers, four double-sided black-and-white plates, one appendix included. Mild foxing along front free-endpaper fore-edge, several leaves with tears and chips along top-edge with no loss of text, otherwise a very good copy in slightly worn dust jacket. First edition. A history of the Royal Australian Air Force's 458 Squadron as seen from the perspective of one of its members. The Squadron operated during Word War II and flew Vickers Wellington bombers, first in Europe and later in the Middle East. Its first operational sortie occurred on the 20th and 21st of October, 1941, and consisted of night attacks made against the ports of Emden, Antwerp and Rotterdam. Later that same year, No. 458 Squadron took part in raise the newly establish No. 460 Squadron RAAF. At the end of January 1942 the squadron was withdrawn from Bomber Command to serve in the Middle East. Item #4591
