Lloyd Carlton Stearman, who founded the original Stearman Aircraft company in 1927, and his flying machines played an integral part in the development and advancement of American aviation. Stearman's company evolved into Boeing's Stearman Division in the 1930s and then into the Wichita Division during World War Two. Over a period of 35 years, the Stearman and Boeing factories built more than 14,500 commercial and military airplanes, thus ensuring their place in aviation history. Item #4564
