High Adventure The Autobiography of Australia's Most Famous W.W.1 Flying Ace

High Adventure The Autobiography of Australia's Most Famous W.W.1 Flying Ace

Melbourne: Kookaburra Technical Publications, 1981. Quarto, chocolate-brown hardcover, spine printed with white lettering, 108 pp., illustrated with black-and-white photographs throughout, four colour plates included, one appendix included. Some foxing on endpapers, light spotting on top edge of text block, dust-jacket a little worn; otherwise a very good copy. First edition. This book has an unusual history. Published originally in 1942 when the author, World War One flying ace Harry Cobby, D.S.O D.F.C. & Bars, was the Royal Australian Air Force's Director of Recruiting, it was a straight autobiography with only a few photographs. It nevertheless became a recognised classic. Many years later Norman Clifford, an experienced commercial artist and World War Two aircraft historian, who had held the original manuscript in his possession since 1947, approached David Cobby, the author's grandson, and suggested a reprinted edition. This is the reprinted book in a new semi-pictorial form released as part of the celebrations of the R.A.A.F.'s 60 Years Diamond Jubilee in 1981. Item #4552
