The Golden Eagles

Perth: St George Books, 1980. Octavo, original brown cloth, spine embossed with gilt lettering, xiv, 242 pp., illustrated endpapers, 12 black-and-white plates. Light spotting on top edge of text block, top edge of dust-jacket slightly worn; otherwise a fine copy. First edition. An account of eleven of Australia's greatest air force aces. This is a fascinating mosaic of Australia's part in aerial warfare, from the lonely and unsophisticated combat practised at the outbreak of World War I to the more advanced techniques of the conflicts in World War Two.

Loosely inserted in this volume is an obituary from The Sydney Morning Herald dated 9.8.1994:"'Killer' Caldwell, WWII fighter ace". Group Captain C. R. Caldwall is featured in Chapter 9 of The Golden Eagles. Item #4540
