Hurricanes over Burma The Story of an Australian Fighter Pilot in the Royal Air Force
Oberon, Austalia: Titania Publishing Co., 1988. Quarto, illustrated printed wrappers, 312 pp.; frontispiece, illustrated with black-and-white photographs, sketches and maps throughout; five appendices included. Spine ends bumped, slight spotting on top edge of text block, corners a little bumped, very light foxing on inside of front cover, faint sticker mark on lower right side of back cover; otherwise a very good copy. First edition. Divided in two parts, this volume first details the early days of Squadron Leader M. C. "Bush" Cotton D.F.C's life, then the break out of World War Two when he joined the Royal Australian Air Force; training in Australia, Canada and England; and his time in Britain with Royal Air Force's No. 43 Squadron. In part two, Cotton, who was one of the first Australians to serve with the RAF, recounts his promotion to Squadron Leader of No. 17 Fighter Squadron and their missions in the air over Burma. Throughout this very personal history, Cotton analyses the RAF, those he flew with, his friends, enemies and flying tactics, as well as the emotions he experiences during the war, with disarming frankness. Cotton's early passion for photography has also allowed him to illustrate his work with numerous photographs taken at the time of his experiences. Item #4504
