A vivid account of the way British Government operated during World War Two, with a particular focus on the relationship between civil Government and its military advisors. Based on the private diaries of experienced Field Marshall Viscount Alanbrooke, Arthur Bryant's work is also a thoughtful examination of the hopes and fears of British Army during such a fraught and dangerous time.
