Quarto, navy hardcover with gilt lettering on spine, endpapers illustrated with black-and-white maps, viii, 230 pp., illustrated with black-and-white photographs throughout, two leaves of colour illustrations of 75 Squadron aircraft included in Appendix D, four appendices included. First edition. An account of the many experiences of the Royal Australian Air Force's 75 Squadron during times of war and peace. While there is much detail of the missions and aircraft flown, and the ingenuity of the squadron, the author has also incorporated recollections from a wide range of members and ex-members of day-to-day squadron life. Aircraft flown by 75 Squadron include Kittyhawks, Mustangs, de Havilland Vampires, Dassault Mirage IIIs and F/A -18 Hornets. The squadron was initially formed in 1942 to counter the Japanese air threat against New Guinea and Australia, and soon after helped to defeat a Japanese seaborne landing at Milne Bay, New Guinea. This marked the beginning of many years of active service for the squadron. Item #4421
