Catalogue Général Médaille d'Or, Paris 1900. Fournisseurs des hôpitaux civils et militaires et de la faculté de médecine de Paris
Paris: Léon & Jules Rainal, 1905. Quarto, original printed wrappers, 426 pp., profusely illustrated. Wrappers stained, joints split and repaired, shaken. Internally in good order. The illustrations present in this trade catalogue were engraved by M. de Ruaz on models crafted at Léon & Jules Rainal's workshop.
Léon and Jules Rainal sold medical and surgical equipment. They were specialists in hernia bandage and orthopaedic equipment (for example: customised leather corsets), suppliers to civil and military hospitals, and to the Paris Faculty of Medicine and experts in public assistance.
This catalogue shows the Rainal brothers' company's expansion in terms of surgical materials and equipment. They no longer sell devices to treat or reduce herniated discs pains only. Their catalogue covers a wide range of products used to treat congenital disabilities or illnesses and other health issues (which can be a result of accidents or war injuries) and help patients through their healing process.
This catalogue emphasises the evolution, improvements, and optimisations of medical equipment in the early years of the twentieth century. It is divided in 29 sections from trusses to abdominal belts and other prostheses. Dewey 56. Item #4331
Price (AUD): $500.00
