Hardy's Anglers' Guide. Coronation Number
Alnwick, England: printed by Robert Maclehose for the Hardy Bros. 1937. Octavo, original decorated card wrappers; 422 pp., 24 colour plates and numerous other illustrations and line drawings. Covers thumbed and worn, internally in good order. A serious trade catalogue of angling gear from the legendary English manufacturer Hardy Brothers. Includes just about everything for angling in fresh and salt water – flies, lures, trout rods, reels, line, hooks, tackle boxes, folding chairs, and the like. For fly fishing enthusiasts, the 24 colour plates of flies, nymphs and lures is a good resource.
Published for the Coronation of George VI, the catalogue is a canny piece of marketing. It features articles on angling in numerous exotic locations including India and Kashmir, Scandinavia, Tasmania, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya and North America. Naturally, this helpful information blends seamlessly with products offered for sale. For example, page 58 features not only North Country wet flies and nymphs, but also trout flies for Himalayan streams.
The special Coronation catalogue is offered for sale with the supplement to the 1935 Hardy Bros. catalogue (40 pp.). Item #4309
Price (AUD): $175.00
