The boards are a bit worn and stained, internally excellent. Late nineteenth century industrial trade catalogue of goods offered for sale by J. Stone and Company of Deptford. The catalogue is divided into two sections, the first offers goods and machinery for civic water supply and regulation; including drinking fountains, fire-fighting hydrants and related machinery, water cranes, reservoir equipment, and so forth. The second section is for water and plumbing accessories for use internally within buildings. Products include baths, lavatories, water closets and urinals, cisterns, coppers for boiling water, and domestic fire extinguishing apparatus.

J. Stone & Company were innovators in hydraulic engineering, and the catalogue contains novel inventions such as "Morris's apparatus" for drilling and tapping water mains and inserting ferrules under pressure. Another innovation is their patent apparatus for testing water meters and flow rates. Clearly the company had invested significantly in research and design of novel hydraulic engineering solutions. Indeed, the fist leaf of the catalogue jealously warns competitors that J. Stone and Company 'have recently instituted legal proceedings against several firms who have infringed the copyright of their illustrated catalogues.
