Norman Lindsay's Ship Models Preface and commentary by Norman Lindsay. Foreword by Douglas Stewart

Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1966. Quarto, quarter green morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, [vi]+98 pp., illustrated throughout. A fine copy with the slipcase. Limited edition of 150 copies, numbered and signed by Norman Lindsay.

One of the more lavish postwar editions published by Angus and Robertson, here enhanced by the legendary London bookbinders Sangorski & Sutcliff in a style reminiscent of the halcyon days of the Golden Cockerell Press.

In the preface, essayist and poet Douglas Stewart writes of his respect and friendship for Norman Lindsay, and discovering his aptitude for model-building: 'One day when we were in the courtyard at Springwood, taking the sun between gold sandstone walls while Norman did something intricate with a pen-knife to a piece of model which stood on a bench for repairs, I asked him where he found the patience to do all the work he had to do on a ship model. It was a foolish remark, like people saying it needs patience for that most absorbing of occupations, trout fishing. He laughed. But afterwards he thought about it. 'It's not patience' he wrote to me; 'it's discipline'. Chaplin 78. Item #4164
