A Brief Record of the Advance of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force Under the command of General Sir Edmund H. H. Allenby, G.C.B., G.C.M.G. July 1917 to October 1918. Compiled from official sources and published by The Palestine News
Cairo: produced by the Government Press and Survey of Egypt, 1919. Quarto, original printed wrappers with cloth backstrip lettered "The Advance of the E.E.F."; frontispiece portrait of General Allenby, [6], 114 pp., followed by 56 maps with letterpress to verso of each. Wrappers moderately rubbed, a little wear affecting the spine ends, but an attractive copy overall. Preserved in a folding clamshell case. One of the earlier appearances of T.E. Lawrence in print, as summarised by Philip O'Brien in his bibliography: 'This book contains the order of battle and the campaign maps for the Near Eastern front of which Lawrence's Arab campaign was a part. Two pieces of text were written by Lawrence. This book is not always recognized as containing Lawrence's work, as the pieces are unsigned. The pieces in question appear to have been extracted from official reports. Together with the reports in the Arab Bulletin and in The Times, are his first published accounts of the Arab campaign. The publisher, The Palestine News, was the official newspaper of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force'.
Two summaries are definitively attributed to Lawrence, being compiled from his notes prepared for the Arab Bureau. These articles are respectively titled 'Sherifian Co-operation in September' and 'Story of the Arab Movement.' O'Brien A011. Item #4143
