This volume is a modern biography of Henry Reed written by his grandson Hudson Fysh. Henry Reed (1806-1880) was an English merchant who, at the age of 20 years old, sailed from Gravesend sailing as a steerage passenger on the Tiger and reached Hobart Town in Tasmania in April 1827. He travelled to Launceston and began to work John Gleadow's store. After a while, he entered a business partnership with his three associates: John Batman, James Henty and William Buckley. Henry Reed married twice. Once in 1830 to Mary Grubb, his cousin, with whom he had eleven children. After Mary's death, he married Margaret Sayres Elizabeth Frith, a church worker, in 1863. They had five children together. Henry Reed was an Australian merchant, landowner, shipowner and evangelist. His second marriage would increase his philanthropist's interest. He helped General Booth advising him during the difficult formative years of the Salvation Army and worked on raising funds for General Booth's project. Item #4024
