This is the story of Aviator Richard Crowe. Crowe sailed from New York to France in 1917 as a cadet in the 15th Foreign Detachment Aviation Section, Signal Corps. And was commissioned as Second Lieutenant at Tours in July 1918, where he soon met his death by September that same year in a field in Issoudum. His story "Jacqueline" is published in this volume along with many private letters, showcasing his talent as a master wordsmith and crystallising his experience as part of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War One.
