This book chronicles the golden age of aviation from the perspective of it's two main goals of speed and distance. Gwynn-Jones describes developments in these areas with great detail and scope both from a technical and historical perspective using examples of pioneering flights such as Alcock, Linbergh, and Costes, and the men whose efforts had a great impact on speed such as Scheider, Pulitzer, and Bennett.
