Item #3626 Mosquito, The Wooden Wonder. Edward BISHOP.

Mosquito, The Wooden Wonder

Shrewsbury England: Airlife Publishing, 1990. Octavo, blue cloth hardcover, dust-jacket, iv, 170 pp., illustrated in black-and-white throughout. A very fine copy. Edward Bishop, war history author and director of the de Havillard Museum Trust, exquisitely articulates the creation, development and success of the Mosquito. Affectionately known as The Wooden Wonder, the de Havillard Mosquito was the most successful and versatile aircraft of the Second World War. Bishop describes how the aircraft was created on the grounds of Salisbury Hall and became a 'cottage industry' where parts were fashioned by furniture craftsmen, piano makers, and pew carvers. He also explains the many roles and operations of the mosquito, and the many extraordinary aviators and aircrew associated with the aircraft. Item #3626
