Small quarto, brown hardcover, illustrated endpapers, xix, 280 pp., illustrated with photographs in black and white throughout Boards slightly rubbed, otherwise a fine copy in dust-jacket. An account of the original volunteers of the 2nd Australian Imperial Forces (A. I. F.) who enlisted in the last months of 1939 and were deployed in early 1940 to the Middle-East where they were sent on operations in the Lybian Desert where their campaigns were successful. However, this wasn't the case in Crete and Greece where nearly one-third of these original volunteers were made prisoners of war and taken to German camps. Item #3552
