Above the Bright Blue Sky is a collection of short stories revolving around World Ward One pilots and their experiences on the Western Front - from two American prisoners of war escaping to Holland, to British and American officers playing games in between missions, and other stories.
Elliott White Springs was an American flying ace of World War I credited with shooting down 16 enemy aircraft. In autumn 1917, Springs enlisted in the United States Army and was sent to train with the Royal Flying Corps. Selected by the Canadian flying ace Billy Bishop to fly the S.E.5, he joined the 85 Squadron and flew over France. In late June 1918, Springs was shot down by Lt. Josef Raesch of Jasta 43. After his recovery, he was reassigned to the U.S. Air Service's 148th Aero Squadron and flew the Sopwith Camel.
When he came back to the United States, Elliott White Springs began a new career, that of an author. He wrote numerous books, short stories, and articles. Many of these inspired by his experiences in combat aviation. Noffsinger 2511. Item #3116
