Large format octavo measuring 183 x 252 mm., original decorated navy cloth, xiv, 462 pp., frontispiece and four plates (one double page) and ten maps (of which nine are folding). Boards are scratched and worn at the extremities, spine dulled and sunned, remnants of previous owner's label on the front board and pastedown endpaper, front inner hinge split but holding, edges and endpapers browned, moderate scattered foxing, small closed tear affects the frontispiece. Despite some external wear this copy is stout and remains internally in good order. Covers assignments in Africa (both Egypt and the Boer War), New Zealand, China, Burma and the Crimean Campaign. The time-span covers the Napoleonic era through to the turn of the century. Item #299
