R.A.F. Biggin Hill

London: Putnam, 1957. Octavo, blue cloth with gilt spine lettering, 288 pp., frontispiece, seven double-sided plates. Cloth stained on spine, tape marks on inner boards, otherwise a very good copy. The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) opened Biggin Hill airfield during the First World War. The station was in charge of defending London against Zeppelins and Gotha bombers attacks. During Second World War, the R.A.F., formerly known as RFC, used Biggin Hill as one of the commanding bases for the Battle of Britain. A large number of units were based at Biggin Hill such as No. 141 Squadron and their Bristol Fighters, No. 32 Squadron and their Bristol Bulldogs, No. 23 Squadron and their Hawker Demons as well as No. 92 Squadron and their Spitfires and No. 72 Squadron.
