Boards a bit worn and faded at the bottom edge, internally in very good order. A compelling collection of illustrations by Clayton Knight.
Knight's drawings were inspired by excepts from the following stories: War Birds Diary of an Unknown Aviator (1926), The Red Knight of Germany by Floyd Gibbons (1927), Balloon Buster by Norman S. Hall (1928) and Nocturn Militaire (1927) and Above the Bright Blue Sky (1928) by Elliot White Springs.
Clayton Knight was an American aviator who served during World War I. He was also an illustrator and worked for the comic strip Ace Drummond. In 1917, Knight volunteered for the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He trained with the No.44 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps in Essex on July 24, 1917.
During a mission in October 1918, Knight survived a crash landing on Germany territory. He was taken to a German clinic and made a prisoner of war. After his recovery, Knight continued his career as an aviation artist. Item #2611
