Guynemer was rejected five times for military service due to frailty, but was accepted for training as a mechanic in late 1914. With perseverance and determination, he joined Escadrille MS.3 (renamed Escdrille N.3 later on) in 1915 and remained in the same unit for the entirety of his service. On September 11th, 1917, Guynemer failed to return from a combat mission and was officially declared missing September 25th, 1917. With 54 air combat victories, he was considered one of the ace pilots of World War One. Guynemer was awarded the Légion d'honneur, the Croix de Guerre, the Médaille militaire, and the Order of Karadorde's Star. Item #2518
