Rome: Editoriale Aeronautica - Roma, 1939. Octavo, printed wrappers, 464 pp., frontispiece, 24 plates. Wrappers worn, mild spotting on preliminary leaves, otherwise a near-fine copy. A biography of Count Francesco Baracca, one of Italy's top fighter ace of World War I with 34 aerial victories. In command of the 91 Squadron, he died on June 19th, 1918, shot down in the midst of a ground attack mission.

Baracca had an image of a prancing horse painted upon his aircraft. In 1923, Enzo Ferrari met Francesco Baracca's mother who advised him to place the image of a prancing horse on his car to bring him good fortune. It has been the Ferrari racing car company logo since 1923. Item #2513
