Item #2426 High Adventure Colour paintings by Norman Clifford. A. H COBBY.

High Adventure Colour paintings by Norman Clifford

Melbourne: Kookaburra Technical Publications, 1981. Quarto, brown hardcover, 108 pp., profusely illustrated. Boards slightly worn and flecked at spine ends and along the edges, a tear in the dust jacket at top edge, otherwise a near-fine copy. This book has an unusual history. Published originally in 1942 when the author was the R.A.A.F.'s Director of Recruiting, it was virtually a straight autobiography with only a few photographs. It nevertheless became a recognised classic. Many years later Norman Clifford, an experienced commercial artist, and WWI aircraft historian, who had held the original manuscript in his possession since 1947, approached David Cobby, the author's grandson, and suggested a reprinted edition.
