London: Ivor Nicholson & Watson Limited, 1936. Octavo, pale green cloth, frontispiece, 320pp., 6 photo plates. Boards bent at corners, light foxing on front edge of leaves, otherwise a good copy. An early Great War flyer, the author joined the RFC in 1915 as an observer in 12 squadron in B.E. 2C's while the squadron was being prepared to embark for France. He subsequently became a pilot only to be shot down on 17 September 2016 during the battle of the Somme where he became a prisoner for the remainder of the war. Subsequent to the Armistice, he remained in the RAF during the period between the wars. A well-written detailed book on early and between the wars military aviation and flying. Item #23
