Instructions for Care and Management of the Beardmore Aero Engine

Dumfries: Arrol-Johnston Ltd, 1916. Staple bound octavo booklet, original printed wrappers, 36 pp. (last blank), three folding plates. Wrappers slightly chipped, but an excellent copy. The Beardmore aeroplane engine was manufactured by Arrol-Johnston of Dumfries, and this technical booklet was prepared in June 1916 at the height of the First World War. It details the process of assembling the engine and fitting the propeller, with subsequent sub-sections on lubrication, carburettors, the petrol tanks, and ignition. Of special interest to aero historians are the instructions for maintenance after each flight and procedures for safe running to be performed after every 12 hours of running time.

The three folding plates are impressive, and detail the 160 horsepower engine carburettor side, exhaust side, and oil pump end. Item #2236

Price (AUD): $250.00
