London: Methuen, 1914. Octavo, viii, 406 pp., with the publisher's advertisements of 32 pages. Lacks front free endpaper, some regular scattered foxing, front inner hinge tender but holding, some rubbing of the cloth, lower spine point a bit frayed. A closed tear affects the final leaf of the text. Item #1817
This is an example of the spurious first edition, with the following points of issue: tipped-in title page dated 1914 (a result of the printer's strike - whereas the true first edition is dated 1913); on the verso of the half-title, the word Narcissus is in quotation marks; spine lettering reads Methven; publisher's advertisements of some 32 pages are dated Autumn 1913.
