Hawker V.C The biography of the late Major George Hawker, V.C., D.S.O. Royal Engineers and Royal Flying Corps
Kent: Knole Park Press, 1965. Large octavo, original cloth, xvi, 254 pp., numerous plates. Lower spine end a bit bumped, yet an attractive copy in a moderately rubbed dust-jacket. Lanoe Hawker was not only a pioneer in flight, but one of the earliest pilots to specialise in fighting in the air, and the first fighter pilot to be awarded the V.C. His air fighting was a strange paradox, for he had a kind and gentle nature, was thoughtful and mature for his age, and deplored the misery caused by the war. Item #1610
Price (AUD): $70.00
