When the British expeditionary Force sailed in 1914 it was accompanied by four squadrons of the Royal Flying Corps. The sixty-three primitive aeroplanes were flown by army officers. Then the war ended there were ninety-nine RAF squadrons on the Western Front. They had used up seven thousand machines in 1918. Item #1125
